INSTALLATION BANQUET 2009-2010

The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur held its 61st Installation ceremony at a gala banquet dinner at Shangri-la Hotel Kuala Lumpur on 28th June 2009.

The theme for the evening was centred on diamonds since the Club was celebrating its 60th Jubilee anniversary of establishment. The invitation card featured a close-up photograph of resplendent red roses with fine droplets of dew and emblazoned with a sparkling diamond nestled among the petals. Even the table décor was consistent with this theme as the centrepieces were rings of red roses with diamonds among the petals.

\The guests-of-honour were DYMM Yang Di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and his Royal Consort DYMM Tunku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Datuk Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud (who is the Club’s Royal Patron). Other noted attendees included YAM Tengku Puteri Puan Sri Norzehan, YAM Tengku Syarif Panglima Perlis Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail and YAB Toh Puan Dr Aishah Ong.

Several ladies of the Club under the leadership of PP Juanita Lee kicked off the entertainment with delightful dances and dazzling dresses. More entertainment was provided by magician Dr Erwin Ng & perennial song-bird Ms Elaine Kang for the 500-plus guests.

In keeping with Inner Wheel’s tradition of community service, the Club gave out six scholarships on that evening to deserving students from Segi College who were also invited to the installation dinner.

After a scrumptious feast, and the formal ceremonies to install President Lee Lan Mee and her new Committee, the night ended with dancing and songs for guests who stayed to enjoy themselves into the wee hours of the morning.

Meeting Day and Time

The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur founded in 1949, meets every first Thursday of each month at 2pm at the Royal Selangor Club, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. The Club has currently around 80 members. We welcome all visitors as guests to our monthly meetings.

Club’s Major Projects to Date

(1) RACTAR (Rumah Amal Cahaya Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah)

This is a residential orphanage where on 8th August 2009, the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur donated RM 5,000 towards their building fund.

It was also a Hari Raya project where the Club donated two electric ovens valued at RM 2,260.

(2) Paediatric Oncology Ward, General Hospital, Kuala Lumpur

The traditional annual supply of ice-cream to young patients in the ward began in August 2009 for this year and will be continued till the end of 2010. The donations are sponsored by two of the Club’s senior members. Unfortunately the Club’s planned visit originally on 20th August, 2009, has been postponed indefinitely due to the A(H1N1) epidemic.

However on 26th August, 2009, the Club handed to the staff 40 goodie bags for distribution to the young patients at this ward. Each bag consisted of practical gifts such as biscuits, a mug, a pencil case, toothpaste, a toothbrush and packet drinks.

(3) St. John Ambulance Dialysis Centre, Selangor

On 22nd August, 2009, the Club donated RM10,000 towards the purchase of the dialysis chairs, trolley tables, chemical solutions and medical supplies for the St. John Ambulance Dialysis Centre, in Banting, Selangor. The donation was handed over by President Lan Mee to PP Dato’ Dr Low Bin Tick (Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja and Commander in Chief of St. John’s Ambulance Association Malaysia).

The cheque presentation was held on 22nd Aug. 2009 (Saturday) at 11.30am in their Klang Headquarters. The Guest-of-Honour was Senator Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Deputy Minister of Women, Family & Community Development.
