What We Do
A Century of Service:
The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja

Founded in 1928, the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur emerged as a beacon of unity amidst Kuala Lumpur's diverse cultural landscape. With a core group of 25 members, the club quickly grew to over 80, reflecting a harmonious blend of European and Asian influences. The early days of the club were marked by a strong commitment to service and camaraderie. Weekly Rotary Lunches, a tradition that continues to this day, were held at the historic Bok House (now the W Kuala Lumpur Hotel).

Pioneering figures like Sir Andrew Caldecott and Sir Leonard David Gammans led the club, fostering a vibrant community that included prominent individuals such as the Storch brothers, Raja Tun Uda, Choo Kia Peng, Loke Choe Thye, Mungo Park, and Arumugam Viswalingam. These individuals, drawn to Rotary's principles of service above self, played a crucial role in shaping the club's legacy

✨ A Diwali to Remember — Lights, Love & Legacy with RCKLDR ✨ On the bright afternoon of 26 October, members of the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja gathered in Petaling Jaya for a Diwali lunch filled with colour, connection, and camaraderie. The atmosphere? Electric with joy, warm with unity. The buffet? Oh, what a feast! From a scrumptious Indian spread to crunchy murukus and sweet handmade cookies, every bite told a story of tradition, love, and the incredible generosity of our Indian members, who came together to sponsor the entire celebration. 🪔💛 More than just a meal, it was a family reunion in full festive form — sarees, laughter, shoulder claps, cheeky jokes, and heart-to-heart conversations. The kind of Rotary fellowship that reminds us: this is more than a club — it’s a family. 🎉 All this was made possible by our Fellowship Director Rtn Pradeep Balaram and Organising Chair Rtn Dato’ Shah Ranai, whose teamwork made the dream work. Their meticulous planning ensured a celebration that was equal parts vibrant and heartfelt. Yet, woven into the joy was a moment of deep reflection. Just hours before the event, we learned of the passing of our beloved Rtn. Horst Wippern — a man whose life embodied discipline, grace, and unwavering service. While we feasted and fellowshipped, his spirit was never far. PAG Hardeep Singh delivered a powerful eulogy during the gathering — reminding us that true Rotarians leave behind legacies, not just memories. In that same spirit, many members travelled straight from the event to attend Horst’s wake, honouring his life with presence, prayer, and silent strength. 🔥 Then came a rousing address by DG Edward Khoo — whose words weren’t just heard, they were felt. From timeless Rotary values to powerful nuggets of wisdom, he reminded us why we serve — and how leadership rooted in humility can move mountains. And just when the room couldn’t hold more history… We were reminded of Rotary’s roots in Mongolia, now home to 31 clubs — seeded by none other than our own Past District Governor Dato’ Haji Mustapha Ma. At 97 years young, his name still commands respect, and his decades of service continue to inspire generations. He is, quite simply, a legend in our midst. 🌍🦁 To President Dato’ Dr. Prakash, thank you for your steady leadership and heartfelt support — your quiet encouragement behind the scenes makes gatherings like this feel seamless and significant. So yes, this Diwali was a celebration of light and legacy. A tapestry of flavours, friendships, and fond farewells. A reminder that even in loss, we shine brighter together. Here’s to the spirit of RCKLDR — Rooted in service. Lit by fellowship. Driven by unity. #RCKLDR #Diwali2025 #FellowshipAndFamily #WeRememberHorst #RotaryLove #UnityInDiversity #LegacyOfService #DGEdwardKhoo #DatoMustaphaMa #PresidentPrakash #RotaryMagic

From all members of the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja Today, we mourn the passing of one of our stalwarts — Rtn. Horst Wippern, a man whose presence, integrity, and quiet strength left an indelible mark on the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja. Horst was known to many of us as a man of principle — strict yet deeply fair, a person who carried both discipline and humour in perfect balance. Beneath his firm exterior was a warm heart and a sharp wit that often reminded us how leadership and kindness can co-exist beautifully. Many of us had the privilege of working closely with him, both in Rotary and beyond. Those who served alongside him in the KLRCF Management Committee will remember how much wisdom, structure, and dignity he brought to every discussion. He was a true Rotarian — steadfast in service, unwavering in his values, and always ready with a touch of humour that lightened even the most serious moments. His contributions to our club and to Rotary as a whole will be remembered with deep gratitude. Horst, you will be deeply missed — your friendship, your discipline, your humour, and your unwavering commitment to Rotary ideals. Your legacy will live on in the projects you shaped, the members you inspired, and the values you upheld. On behalf of all members of the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja, we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May your soul rest in eternal peace, dear friend and Rotarian. You served with honour, and you leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire us all.

Men don’t talk about it. They hide behind strength, silence, and the belief that “it won’t happen to me.” But prostate cancer doesn’t care about silence — it grows in it. Project Blue Dot by the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja is our call to break that silence. To remind every father, husband, brother, and friend that early detection is not weakness — it’s wisdom. 🎥 In this awareness video, we shine light on a quiet killer that claims lives simply because men are too proud to test, too late to act. 💙 Get tested. Speak openly. Encourage others. Together, we turn fear into awareness — and awareness into life. #ProjectBlueDot #RotaryKLDR #ProstateCancerAwareness #MensHealth #RotaryInAction #RotaryForHumanity

💫 On 4th October 2025, at the USJ 1 Community Hall, something quietly extraordinary unfolded. What began as a modest idea — “Pay It Forward” — became a living expression of Rotary’s purpose. With RM11,100 raised, the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja turned generosity into 111 grocery boxes, each worth RM100 — simple in size, but immeasurable in spirit. Every box carried more than food; it carried dignity, care, and remembrance. A message wrapped within each pack: “You are seen. You are not forgotten. Hope is still alive.” The recipients — hardworking B40 families, identified by YB Michelle Ng (ADUN Subang) — received these boxes with grace that words could hardly contain. Smiles met service, and gratitude met giving. And standing quietly beside us was Mydin, whose generosity ensured every box arrived on time. Their team delivered all 111 boxes directly to the hall — turning logistics into love, and supply into service. In that moment, there were no titles, no ranks — only hearts united in purpose. Rotarians, community volunteers, YB Michelle, and Mydin’s dedicated team stood shoulder-to-shoulder, proving once again that service, no matter how small in value, can echo infinitely in spirit. Because sometimes, RM100 can feed a home — and remind a family that kindness still exists. To every member who gave, packed, lifted, and showed up — thank you for turning compassion into action. You didn’t just deliver groceries. You delivered hope, humanity, and heart. This is Rotary — where even the smallest ripple becomes a wave of change. #RotaryKLDIRaja #MomentInRotary #UniteForGood #RotaryDistrict3300 #PayItForward #ServiceAboveSelf #YBMichelleNg #MydinMalaysia #RotaryInAction #HumanityInMotion #B40Families #ActsOfGrace #FromRM100ToHope
